Part-time Research Assistant (m/f)

  • Ref 19-04

  • Starting date: As soon as possible

  • CDD 10 hours per week

  • Duration – 2 months 

The student will join the Urban Development and Mobility Department and s/he will contribute to the project on the “Effects of Affordable Housing on Subjective Well-being” (A-HOUSE) funded by Luxembourg National Research Fund Project no 12700468 and led by Dr. Magdalena GORCZYNSKA. The A-HOUSE project has three goals. First, it will explore the determinants of residential satisfaction (RS) in affordable housing (AH). Second, it will bring new evidence on how RS of people living in AH affects their global life satisfaction (LS) as a cognitive component of subjective well-being (SWB). Third, the project will identify the differences between the stakeholders’ and individuals’ perception of the determinants of RS, and it will offer solutions to mitigate the divergences.

Necessary skills/experience

  • Background in social sciences (sociology, psychology, social geography or other relevant);

  • Familiar with means-end chain model framework;

  • Familiar with qualitative research methods (in particular individual interviews, workshops with stakeholders) and qualitative data analysis;

  • Fluent in French and English; knowledge of other languages practiced in Luxembourg would be an asset (Luxembourgish, German, Portuguese, …)

  • Familiar with the software to analyze qualitative data (e.g. NVivo) will be an asset;

  • Organized, rigorous and able to work independently;

  • Interest in housing related topics would be an advantage.

This position will cover the following tasks

  • participation in the preparation of a questionnaire for the interviews with residents (questions related to residential mobility, residential preferences, choices and aspirations, and values);

  • conducting the interviews with beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries of affordable housing in Luxembourg (16);

  • transcription of the interviews;

  • participation in qualitative data analysis;

  • participation in the preparation of a questionnaire and a workshop with stakeholders;

  • participation in internal team meetings and support in the preparation of documents for meetings, drafting the minutes.
