• Permanent contract
The Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) is an interdisciplinary publicly funded research institute devoted to applied empirical research in economic, social and spatial sciences, conducted across three departments: Labour Market; Urban Development and Mobility; and Living Conditions. With an annual budget of ca. €20m and about 160 employees, 85 of whom economists, sociologists, political scientists and geographers, the Institute attracts top researchers from all over the world and provides high-level student training. Building on its scientific and policy expertise, the Institute addresses current and future societal challenges and provides relevant and independent policy advice both on the national and international level. The institute hosts a Data Center as well as a Platform on Behavioural and Experimental Economics.
The Labour Market Department has the mission to generate social value for Luxembourg and beyond by producing both excellent and relevant research in the field of Labour. Its research revolves around two key themes, namely (i) the impact of public policies on employment in a context of international and cross-border mobility, and (ii) the impact of societal challenges (digitalization, workforce diversity and sustainable development) on the relations between employers and employees in the workplace. With a multidisciplinary approach and state-of-the-art quantitative and qualitative methods, the Department collaborates with public and private stakeholders on the improvement of policies and practices in the domains of employment, skills and lifelong learning, integration and diversity, professional relations and HR management.
With strong communication skills and a broad international network s/he will be an outstanding, internationally- recognised researcher in her/his field, with demonstrable leadership experience, and the ability to represent and promote LISER to public authorities, private organisations, stakeholders and collaborating partners both nationally and internationally. The Head of Department will be expected to show a strong commitment to developing the research careers of her/his department members as well as to promoting the impact of research results to policy makers and society in general. The successful appointee should hold a PhD in a related field, or equivalent recognised scientific competences, will have outstanding management skills, substantial experience in generating a high level of research income, innovative high impact scientific output and an interest in inter-disciplinary collaboration. Due to the multi-linguistic culture in Luxembourg and the Institute, in addition to English, knowledge of one or more of the official languages of Luxembourg (Luxembourgish/French/German) would be desirable.
