Research Associate in Economics (f/m)

LISER invites highly qualified and motivated applicants for the position of Research Associate within its Living Conditions Department. The department has a strong focus in research on living conditions in Europe, anchored in academic excellence, policy relevance, and international collaboration.
The successful candidate shall have a strong interest in producing high-impact, innovative, and forward-thinking research with clear societal relevance. He or she is expected to conduct rigorous applied research, drawing on econometrics and mobilising big data and original empirical methods to generate robust evidence that can inform and shape future policy decisions. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated expertise in:
- Human capital development and social interactions ;
- Housing and labour market discrimination ;
- Well-being across the life course.
Your role
In this context, the successful candidate will have the following missions:
- Conduct and publish high-quality research, aiming for excellence in journals recognized by the international academic community ;
- Active support in the department’s activities and its scientific development: Identify and pursue research opportunities with clear societal relevance and impact, by applying for grants to secure competitive or collaborative funding ;
- Disseminate research findings:
- To the academic community via conferences, external seminars, and participating in research networks ;
- To policymakers, civil society, and the broader public through outreach activities such as policy briefs, roundtables, consultancies, etc.
- Develop the scientific network, support the career development of junior researchers, participate in supervision committees and editorial activities.
Your profile
- PhD in Economics, with 3-5 years of academic experience ;
- Proven research expertise in at least three of the following areas:

- Human capital, education, child development, and intergenerational inequality
- Inequality and discrimination in the housing and labour market
- Well-being assessment and its determinants across the life course
- Income distribution, poverty, equality of opportunities
- Strong experience in rigorous applied research, using econometrics and/or other quantitative techniques and mobilising big data and original empirical methods ;
- Experience in preparing, writing, and managing funded research projects, and a good understanding of the Luxembourgish socio-economic landscape are considered an asset ;
- Ability to work independently while contributing to collaborative research environments ;
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to engage both academic and non-academic audiences ;
- Excellent oral and writing skills in English, any other language is considered as an asset ;

The yearly gross salary for full-time position is set to 92’123,25 euros.
