LISER invites highly qualified and motivated applicants for the position of Research Associate (post-doc level) in Health Economics within the Labour Market department (which hosts the Cellule d'analyse d'impact des politiques de développement (CAIPD)) and the cross-departmental Research Programme on Health & Health Systems. The postdoctoral researcher will work under the joint supervision of Prof. Marc Suhrcke, who is leading the Health & Health Systems Research Programme, and of Dr. Michel Tenikue, who is the Principal Investigator of the CAIPD project.
The successful candidate should have a strong interest and experience in health economic evaluation and decision analysis. A specific knowledge about evidence-informed health insurance benefit package design would be extremely valuable. Good expertise in micro-econometric modelling would also be desirable, as would an interest in – and experience working on – low and middle income countries.
Your role
The Research Associate will be asked to:
- lead and conduct cost-effectiveness (CEA) and distributional or extended CEA (DCEA or ECEA) modelling, with a view to informing the optimal design of health insurance benefit packages in Senegal (initially) ;
- contribute to developing the health-related cost-effectiveness work in LISER more widely, as needed and feasible (e.g. via contribution to other funded projects, funding applications, policy briefs, etc.) ;
- design and oversee related data collection (patient costs, intervention costs, healthcare costs, etc) ;
- engage policymakers through policy-briefs, stakeholder presentations and workshops ;
- produce – in collaboration with researchers in LISER and with external collaborators – excellent research output, which can be published in high-ranked, peer-reviewed journals.
Your profile
- PhD in Health Economics, Development Economics, Public Health or similar disciplines (awarded or near completion) ;
- Demonstrated experience in CEA ;
- Experience with ECEA or DCEA analysis would be desirable ;
- Experience in the evidence-based development of health benefit package design would be desirable ;
- Experience in primary data collection, preferably in LMICs (esp. West Africa) would be desirable ;
- Experience in quasi-experimental evaluation methods and causal inference would be desirable ;
- Strong academic writing skills and a track record of peer-reviewed publications or high-quality working papers ;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary, international team ;
- Excellent written and spoken English (proficiency in French would be considered as an asset).
