The Living Conditions Department research area relevant for this position is situated at the intersection of education economics, inequality and poverty measurement, equality of opportunity, and policy evaluation. It aims to produce rigorous and policy-relevant empirical research on the mechanisms shaping educational outcomes, social inequalities, and living conditions across population groups. The research will rely on the analysis of micro-data, including survey and administrative sources, in order to examine disparities in opportunities, the distributional consequences of socio-economic processes, and the effectiveness of public policies designed to reduce inequality in education. This research is expected to contribute both to academic knowledge and to evidence-based policy debates.

Your missions

The selected candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of empirical research in the areas of education, inequality, poverty, and policy evaluation. This includes conducting advanced quantitative analyses using large-scale datasets, preparing and harmonising data for research purposes, and applying appropriate econometric and statistical methods to address substantive research questions. The candidate will participate in the design of analytical frameworks, literature reviews, and research protocols, and will contribute to the interpretation and presentation of results. He or she will also support the drafting of scientific publications, policy reports, presentations, and dissemination materials. More broadly, the candidate will collaborate with other researchers within the institute, contribute to collective research projects and meetings, and help strengthen the institute’s expertise in socially relevant and policy-oriented quantitative research.

Your profile

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in economics, applied economics, with a strong quantitative orientation. Demonstrated expertise in applied micro-econometrics, data analysis, and the use of statistical software such as Stata, R, Python, or equivalent tools is required. A solid research background in at least some of the following areas is expected: economics of education, inequality and poverty analysis, equality of opportunity, and public policy evaluation. The selected candidate shall be able to work independently while also engaging effectively in collaborative research settings and demonstrate capacity to communicate research findings clearly to both academic and policy audiences.
