LISER invites candidates to apply for the position of Research Associate (postdoc) within its Living Conditions Department. Applicants should have strong competences in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big-data analysis applied to the study of social and economic inequalities. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team working at the intersection of micro-econometrics, computational social science, and policy-relevant research.
Research domains of interest
The ideal candidate will contribute to one or more of the following priority areas:
- Consumption, saving, and wealth distribution ;
- Risk attitudes, behavioural and experimental methods ;
- Social and economic mobility, and transmission mechanisms ;
- Impact of AI on inequality, discrimination, equality of opportunity, and populist attitudes ;
- Human capital, education, and skill formation.
Expected contributions
The successful candidate will:
- Produce publications in top-tier journals and participate in international conferences contributing to the scientific visibility of the department ;
- Submit grant proposals (external funding) and participate in the projects carried out by the department with local and international stakeholders ;
- Engage in cross-disciplinary dialogue within the institute, and take part in the day-to-day department-related activities (workshops, lecture series, etc.) ;
- Participate in public outreach activities like policy briefs, round-tables discussions, social media communication.
Your profile
- Ph.D. in Economics or Econometrics ;
- Interest in policy-relevant questions and interdisciplinary work ;
- Strong background in empirical micro-economics and quantitative methods, particularly in applied and causal machine learning, AI-enhanced econometrics, and big-data analysis ;
- Ability to work with large-scale datasets, administrative and survey data ;
- Solid programming skills (Stata, Python, R…) ;
- Proven track record or strong potential for publishing high-impact research ;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English , proficiency in French is considered an asset.
