Data Science Expert (f/m)

  • Permanent employment contract at LISER
  • Full-time, 40 hours/week

LISER invites highly qualified and motivated applicants for the position of Data Science Expert within the Information Systems (IS) service which will play a key role in the implementation of state-of-the-art machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI) and data science (DS) tools and services at LISER. The Data Science Expert will provide support to researchers across all departments and enhance LISER capabilities in data science, and AI literacy.

 

In addition to supporting researchers, the Data Science Expert will also conduct research, contributing to the development of the institute's data science capabilities.

Your Role

The tasks of the successful candidate will be divided into 3 mains areas as follows:

 

Research Support

  • Provide expertise and assistance to researchers on data science solutions by helping them to understand their needs and tailor innovative solutions addressing their specific research questions;
  • Collaborate with researchers to leverage these tools and services effectively within their future and ongoing projects;
  • Contribute to the activities and the functioning of the LISER Competence Center on Data Science and Simulations (DSS).

 

Internal know-how development

  • Help create and facilitate training sessions and workshops to enhance DS and AI competencies among institute staff, in collaboration with the DSS team;
  • Recommend and promote the adoption of best practices in DS, ML, and AI to ensure high standards of research quality and reproducibility;
  • Advise the Director of Information Systems in the development of the IS data science development plan, taking into account the latest advances in AI and DS.

 

Data science infrastructure facilities

  • Develop, communicate and promote the use of advanced ML and AI tools in the institute's research projects, ensuring the adoption of the latest technologies;
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the institute's data science and computing infrastructure, in collaboration with the DSS team.

To keep abreast of the latest developments in DS, ML, and AI, and assess their potential impact on the institute’s research activities, you will:

 

  • Engage with the broader community of data science to foster collaborations and partnerships;
  • Share knowledge and strengthen the institute’s research network and collaborative opportunities;
  • Undertake independent research projects, contributing to the institute’s scientific output and innovation.

Your Profile

  • Master Degree in Data Science or in a scientific field relevant to LISER research areas;
  • At least 5 years of solid experience in providing data science and computational support within scientific sectors relevant to LISER research areas;
  • Proficiency in ML, AI, and HPC tools and methodologies, with a proven track record of successful implementation in research projects;
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment, engaging with researchers from various fields;
  • Proactive in developing and communicating innovative solutions and promoting the adoption of new technologies;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information to non-specialists;
  • Fluency in English and preferably in French (experience in writing deliverables and reports, presentations and lead workshops).
